Work Habits Rubric – Band
Band students will receive a weekly study skills habits grade separate from their summative grade for the class that will show on their transcript. This grade will be assigned using the following rubric:
4: I am always on time to rehearsal. I have all necessary supplies in rehearsal, including pencil, music, instrument, working reeds and any other needed supplies for the music being rehearsed that day. I am engaged in the rehearsal, even when my part is not being rehearsed. I listen to other sections and individuals playing and contribute ideas about how the music should be performed. I am well prepared for music being rehearsed, and have practiced any passages that I am struggling with. I demonstrate mature, engaged musicianship.
3: I am on time to rehearsal. I have all necessary supplies in rehearsal, including pencil, music, instrument, working reeds and any other needed supplies for the music being rehearsed that day. I am at times engaged in the rehearsal, even when my part is not being rehearsed. I sometimes listen to other sections and individuals and sometimes contribute ideas about how the music should be performed. I do not distract other members of the class from rehearsal by talking or doing other disruptive activities. I am prepared for music being rehearsed, having practiced many of the passages that I am struggling with. I demonstrate fairly engaged musicianship, but lack a degree of maturity and professionalism in rehearsal.
2: I am usually on time to rehearsal. I usually have all necessary supplies in rehearsal, including pencil, music, instrument, working reeds and any other needed supplies for the music being rehearsed that day. I am often not engaged in the rehearsal when my part is not being rehearsed and I am not listening to what other students are playing. I seldom contribute ideas about how the music should be performed. I usually do not distract other members of the class from rehearsal by talking or doing other disruptive activities. I am somewhat prepared for music being rehearsed and demonstrate that I have spent some time practicing the music being performed. I demonstrate limited engaged musicianship and am not mature or professional in rehearsal.

I do not contribute ideas about how the music should be played. I distract other members of the ensemble by talking or doing other disruptive activities. I am only occasionally prepared for the music being rehearsed and do not demonstrate that I have practiced in preparation for rehearsal. I am still able to play most parts in the music with a limited amount of assistance. I do not demonstrate engaged musicianship and am not mature or professional in rehearsal.
0: I am often late to rehearsal. I often do not have all necessary supplies in reheasal. I am not engaged in the rehearsal when other parts are being rehearsed. I do not contribute ideas about how the music should be played. I often distract other members of the ensemble by talking or doing other disruptive activities. I am seldom prepared for the music being rehearsed and demonstrate that I have not practiced. I am not able to play many parts in the music being rehearsed. I am not a contributing member to the ensemble in most ways.
This grade will be posted at the conclusion of each week on Powerschool. Students and parents are encouraged to ask questions if unsure as to why grade was received.
